Paris:

France coach Raymond Domenech named Lilian Thuram and Claude Makelele on Thursday in his squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Italy and Georgia. The pair, who were regular starters for France in its runner-up finish at the World Cup, had hinted that the tournament might be their final appearance for Les Bleus. Thuram said on Wednesday he would continue to play with the national team, while Makelele had yet to publicly comment. Domenech had previously said it was crucial they play September 2 against Georgia and against Italy four days later - a rematch of the World Cup final in which France lost on penalty kicks. Domenech had met with them earlier this week to discuss their future with France. Thuram, 34, has played a French record 121 international games. Makelele, 33, has 50 caps. Both players had retired after the 2004 European Championship, only to return in August 2005 to help France qualify for the World Cup. (AP)
