Sunil Chhetri to contemplate future with Sporting Lisbon

Bangalore:

India captain Sunil Chhetri said on Friday that he would return to Sporting Lisbon to complete his contract obligations but will request the club for a loan move if he does not get more playing time.

"There are pretty good offers but I still have to go back to Portugal. I will go and talk to them. If things do not work out in terms of playing time, then I might come back to India. I don't want to sit on the bench," he told reporters here.

The former Dempo star had come back to India in a bid to see more playing time after he had endured a tough few months as part of Sporting Lisbon's B team. Chhetri played just five matches in Portugal, failing to start even a single game before moving to Churchill Brothers on loan.

"I came back here and played some matches. That was great. For me it is not about the money. I am going back to Portugal in next couple of weeks," he said.

Chhetri played a key part in the latter stages of last season as Churchill lifted the I-League trophy.
