Sao Paulo:
Midfielder Leandro Lima scored three minutes into second-half injury time, completing Sao Caetano's rally to upset Corinthians 2-1 in the Sao Paulo state championship.
The loss kept Corinthians from reaching sole possession of first place in the 20-team regional competition.
The defending national champion has 15 points, one less than Palmeiras.
Close range
Lima scored from outside the area, curling a right-footed shot into the left-upper corner of the net at Anacleto Campanella stadium.
Striker Rafael Moura put Corinthians ahead in the 31st minute with a right-footer from near the penalty spot, and striker Dimba equalised for Sao Caetano from close range after a cross into the area.
Corinthians - which had won three straight - played without Argentine international Carlos Tevez, who was hospitalised on Monday for what he said was an infected tooth.
The exact cause of the hospitalisation remained a mystery with team doctors earlier reporting that Tevez suffered from an intestinal illness.
Corinthians were also without suspended World Cup veteran Ricardinho, who was red carded in the team's 4-1 win over Bragantino on Saturday.
Goal difference
Palmeiras, seeking the first regional title in 10 years, moved to the top of the table despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Guarani at Brinco de Ouro da Princesa stadium in Campinas.
Palmeiras has 16 points, same as Noroeste and Santos, but leads on goal difference.
The four-time national champion had won seven straight before losing 4-2 to rival Sao Paulo on Sunday.
Scuffle woes
During halftime, Palmeiras coach Emerson Leao allegedly scuffled with a reporter from a local radio station.
Leao, known for his temper, was apparently offended when the reporter complained that the coach refused to answer one of his questions.
The reporter was expected to make a formal complaint to police, and Leao could end up being interrogated by authorities. (AP)
