Barcelona's star forward Ronaldinho has been voted 2005's World Player of the Year by soccer's governing body FIFA. Ronaldinho is the third Brazilian to win the holy duo of World and European player awards in the same year, after Ronaldo and Rivaldo. He picked up 956 points to comfortably beat Chelsea's England midfielder Frank Lampard (306) in the FIFA vote by national coaches and captains around the world. His Barcelona teammate Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon finished in third place with 190 points. Great going Ronaldinho has enjoyed a successful year, helping Barcelona win the Primera Liga title and featuring in Brazil's Confederations Cup triumph in Germany. After a lean few years, Eto'o and Ronaldinho have helped make Barcelona one of the top teams in Europe and one of the favourites for this season's Champions League title. "I'm proud to be part of the club that is doing so well. I expect Barcelona will be successful next year and myself too," Ronaldinho said. Lampard has also had an outstanding year with Chelsea, during which the club won their first English Premier League title in 50 years. (With AP inputs)
