Belo Horizonte:
More than 250 Cruzeiro supporters crammed into Belo Horizonte's Pampulha airport on Thursday, to get a glimpse of their side's latest acquisition and one of their World Cup heroes, Rivaldo.
The 31 year-old striker has signed for the Brazilian champions on a one-year contract, having been released by Italian giants AC Milan last month.
After becoming a peripheral member of the Milan squad, Rivaldo is hoping to revive an illustrious career in his native Brazil - where his two sons are growing up - and wants to put the horrors of last season behind him.
I have to take out the bad things and learn from what happened with me in 2003," said Rivaldo. The champion made his name in the 1990s with Palmeiras and his coach then, Wanderlei Luxemburgo, is now in charge at Cruzeiro.
Luxemburgo, plus the prospect of playing in the Copa Libertadores, allowed Cruzeiro to get their man.
But the former world player of the year will be allowed to leave the Brazilian champions if he gets a better proposal from another European club. (AP)
