Seoul:
FIFA today fined Brazilian star Rivaldo 11,500 Swiss francs ($7,350) for feigning an injury that led to the sending off of Turkey's Hakan Unsal in a heated World Cup match. The international governing body's disciplinary committee decided against a ban after a lengthy investigation into the match in which two Turkish players were sent off and Brazil won 2-1 with a penalty that was also hotly disputed. Rivaldo admitted after the match that he had deliberately exaggerated his injury, holding his face after the Turk had kicked the ball at his legs, in a bid to get Unsal sent off. "The FIFA disciplinary committee today announced that they had imposed a total fine of 11,500 Swiss francs on Rivaldo for an incident in the June 3 match between Brazil and Turkey," said a FIFA statement. It said there was a basic fine of 10,000 Swiss francs with 1,500 Swiss francs in expenses. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
