Stade Rennes drew 0-0 against Monaco at Route de Lorient Stadium on Saturday in their Ligue 1 match - the draw meant that Rennes failed to move ahead of Marseilles and remain fifth. Rennes had the better chances, but Monaco's goal keeper Flavio Roma kept his team out of the debit column. Laszlo Boloni's Stade Rennes have ambitions in the Ligue 1 championship and the coach expected far more than the lacklustre effort that his team produced when they met Monaco at Route de Lorient on Saturday. Having said that Didier Deschamps team weren't that much better. Goalkeeper Flavio Roma was one of the few on the pitch that really made the effort. Rennes made the better start and in the 6th minute Touifilou Maoulida rounded the defence and put in a good cross, only for Olivier Monterrubio to make a complete hash of it. Monaco weren't much better. Their best chance came in the 41st minute when Javier Saviola laid the ball back to Francois Modesto, his well struck shot just sailing over the crossbar. The match remained scoreless going into the break. In the 63rd minute a long kick from Rennes 'keeper Andreas Isaksson resulted in a midfield mess, which Maoulida was quick to pounce on. He only had Roma to beat, but still contrived to put his shot over the crossbar. Then in the 75th minute Monaco gained a free kick, there was a suspicion of a handball, but the shot went wide anyway. In the final minutes Kim Kallstrom struck a dangerous ball into the box, but as ever Roma cleared the danger. Not a great match by any account, but Rennes will be happy with the draw which leaves them with 52 points, just one point behind Marseilles. Monaco are on 58 and in third place behind Lille. (AP)
