Real Madrid got their first Spanish First Division win of the season as they thrashed Espanyol 5-1 in Madrid on Saturday in the Spanish Primera Liga.

Real Madrid got their first Spanish First Division win of the season as they thrashed Espanyol 5-1 in Madrid on Saturday in the Spanish Primera Liga. Madrid got off to a perfect start. After just four minutes Zinedine Zidane fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net to put the home side 1-0 up. The champions were all over Espanyol and seven minutes later they went further ahead as Roberto Carlos drilled in one of his famous free kicks for a 2-0 lead. But the drama continued as Pablo Rotchen brought down Luis Figo in the area and the referee awarded a penalty to Madrid. Figo fired in a perfect penalty to put Madrid 3-0 ahead after just 19 minutes. Enrique De Lucas scored a token goal for Espanyol before Raul and Steve McManaman put the match beyond the visitors' reach.Topics mentioned in this article
