Paraguay to play friendly with Chile

Asuncion, Paraguay:

The Paraguayan national team will close out the year with a friendly against Chile on Nov 15, the president of the Paraguayan federation said on Friday. The announcement effectively cancels a match for Paraguay just before the end of the year in Spain against Valencia or a Catalan select side."We're not going to play the match that was scheduled for Dec 28 against Valencia or Catalunya because the climate is not right for us right now," federation president Oscar Harrison said."The assembly to elect officials must be held in January, so we are in a full campaign," he added.Nevertheless, Harrison indicated the match with Chile will be played in Vina del Mar, Chile, at CD Everton's Sausalito stadium."This game will the final match for interim manager Raul Amarilla," Harrison said. "For World Cup qualifying and the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela, we think we will have another manager that could be Nery Pumpido or Miguel Angel Russo.''Both Pumpido and Russo are Argentinian. Paraguay played in the World Cup in Germany but was eliminated in the first round with Uruguayan Anibal Ruiz as its manager. (AP)
