Mexico City:
Jose Luis Trejo left newly crowned Mexican champion Pachuca for rival UANL Tigres on Tuesday. The job switch came two days after guiding Pachuca to its fourth league title. Pachuca director Andres Fassi said Trejo hoped to sign a contract with Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in the coming days. After leading all teams with 31 points in the regular season, Pachuca beat Morelia and Chivas before prevailing over San Luis 1-0 in Sunday's second-leg final to win the Mexican championship. Upcoming season Trejo will replace Brazilian Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferretti, who left Tigres on Tuesday to signing with UNAM Pumas. Fassi said he and Pachuca President Jesus Martinez met Trejo to discuss the upcoming season, but was told he would not be back. Shortly after that meeting, Fassi said Trejo met his players to inform them of his decision. Trejo coached Cruz Azul and the Jaguares of Chiapas and Cruz Azul Hidalgo of the Mexican league's second-tier First Division A before taking over as head trainer at Pachuca. He led Cruz Azul to the Copa Libertadores final in 2001, but the squad lost to Argentina's Boca Juniors. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
