Owen scores for Liverpool

Liverpool must be strong favourites to advance to the fourth round of the UEFA Cup after a 1-0 victory at Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday. Michael Owen scored the only goal of the third round, first leg match after 27 minutes. They missed out on the Champions League, but judging by their performance in Netherlands, Liverpool look set for UEFA Cup glory. Owen put the English side in front after 27 minutes and tormented the Vitesse defence for much of the match. Fortunately for the hosts, goalkeeper Dragoslav Jevric was in inspired form. The 'Reds' had rested a number of their big stars ahead of Sunday's huge Premiership clash with Manchester United. But they still had too much class for Vitesse. (AP)
