New Delhi:
The six-team tournament, which India won in its last edition in 2007, will now be held from August 19 to 31 instead of the earlier scheduled August 18-30.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) and sponsors Oil and Natural Gas Commission decided this after rounds of stock taking of the Ambedkar Stadium and meeting in the last couple of days.
"There were two dates for the commencement of the tournament. One was August 18 and the other August 19. In the last of couple of days the organisers have been having a series of meetings and finally decided to start the tournament on August 19," NK Bhatia, Delhi Soccer Association Secretary, who has been involved in the preparation for the tournament, said.
"Delhi Municipal Corporation had promised us that everything will be cleared quickly after the Independence Day celebrations but the organisers felt it would be better to push the tournament by a day," he added.
Six teams - Syria, Thailand, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan and Sri Lanka, besides India - are participating in the tournament.
