The Moroccan Football Federation decided to terminate the contract with national coach Eric Gerets of Belgium after a string of poor results.
The decision to sack the Belgian came after Morocco's 0-2 defeat to Mozambique, September 9 in Maputo in the 3rd and final round qualification for the African Cup of Nations, reports Xinhua.
Morocco will face an uphill battle when they meet Mozambique in Marakkech, October 13. They will need to win by a three-goal margin to reach next year's Nations Cup finals in South Africa.
Gerets, 58, was in command of the Morocco team since July 2010, from Saudi club Al Hilal. He has come under increasing pressure recently after a series of poor results. His record with Moroccan team was seven wins, six draws and seven defeats.
