Sousse:
Morocco comfortably held South Africa to a one-all draw on Wednesday at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse, Tunisia, to qualify for the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations.
South Africa took the lead against the run of play after 29 minutes when the Morocco goalkeeper Khalid Fouhamia completely missed a cross from Siyabonga Nomvethe and Patrick Mayo volleyed the ball into the empty net.
But Morocco equalised in the 38th minute when Jaouad Zairi was fouled by Neil Winstanley and Youssef Safri converted the resultant spot-kick.
In the other final Group D match on Wednesday, Nigeria beat Benin two-one to join Morocco in the second round.
Morocco will now play Algeria in the quarter-finals while Nigeria will face the defending champions Cameroon. (AP)
