Sao Paulo:

Club world champion Internacional said on Monday it has signed Brazilian striker Nilmar to a four-year deal.

The former Lyon player, who was without a club since leaving Corinthians earlier this season, is returning to the side where he began his professional career in 2003.

Nilmar is coming off two serious knee injuries that kept him sidelined since the beginning of 2006. He isn't expected to make his debut for several weeks.

"I wished I could play right away, but I can't get ahead of myself," the 23-year-old player said. "I need to recover completely."

A member of Brazil's winning team at the 2003 Under-20 World Cup, Nilmar helped Corinthians win the Brazilian league in 2005 after returning from Lyon.

Internacional won the Club World Cup by upsetting FC Barcelona 1-0 in the final last year in Japan.

A three-time national champion and last year's runner-up, Inter is 10th in the 20-team Brazilian league standings with 35 points from 26 matches. Its next match is Sunday against Atletico Mineiro in Belo Horizonte.
