Madrid:
Former Real Madrid sweeper Fernando Hierro has claimed more than US$ 630,000 from the Spanish club after the termination of his contract, according to reports in the Spanish press.
Hierro, who has since joined a Qatar outfit, initiated legal proceedings in December for 600,000 euros, according to El Pais
newspaper.
According to sporting daily As, said the figure was 540,000 euros and that a deal was likely to be made after a meeting between the player's lawyers and club official Jorge Valdano on Wednesday.
Hierro received severance pay of 3 million euros but he believed his testimonial match payday, for players having spent more than 10 years at the club, should not have been included in the sum.
Real Madrid terminated Hierro's contract in June last year though, according to El Pais, he had had a verbal agreement for a two-year extension worth 7.2 million euros. (PTI)
