While the United States President Barrack Obama was singing praises about Carli Lloyd & Co. for their stunning show in the Women's World Cup, the English FA made a horrible faux pas on twitter. (United States Defeat Japan to Win Women's Football World Cup)
The official twitter account of the Football Association referred to the returning English women's football team as - "Our #Lionesses go back to being mothers, partners and daughters today, but they have taken on another title - heroes." (Carli Lloyd Living Her World Cup Dream)

The tweet was swiftly deleted after a severe backlash on the social media branding it as 'sexist'.
After the fiasco, FA went into damage control mode and an FA spokesperson said, "The full story was a wider homecoming feature attempting to reflect the many personal stories within the playing squad as has been told throughout the course of the tournament. However, we understand that an element of the story appears to have been taken out of context and the opening paragraph was subsequently revised to reflect that fact."
While USA won the Women's World Cup beating Japan, England ended the tournament as bronze medallists.
