The Nigerian strike force of Dudu Omagbemi and Ranty Martins powered East Bengal to a 3-0 win over Kalyani Bharat FC in an I-League football match at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex here on Wednesday.
For the Kolkata giants, Omagbemi scored a first half brace while Martins converted a penalty after the breather.
With the win, East Bengal rose to the fifth spot in the standings with 16 points from 11 matches.
Kalyani Bharat FC remained at the ninth spot with 11 points from as many matches.
East Bengal were faster off the block and quickly went into the lead through their Nigerian striker Dudu Omagbemi.
Midfielder Cavin Lobo floated an accurate ball from the left wing which was powerfully headed in by Dudu at the 17th minute.
The Lobo-Omagbemi combination bore fruit again six minutes later.
Lobo evaded his marker with a quick turn and essayed a 30 yard cross filed pass for Omagbemi who coolly guided the ball over the goalkeeper.
The comfortable two goal cushion gave East Bengal confidence and they dominated the proceedings, going in the break promising to score more in the second half.
And they nearly delivered on the promise when striker Ranty Martins' opportunistic run found him one-on-one with goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.
But his weak attempt was thwarted by Bhattacharya.
But Martins made amends on the 71st minute when he forced Bhattacharya to commit a foul inside the box to get a penalty and scored from the spot with ease.
Kalyani tried to reduce the margin but their best chances were just not good enough.
