Lima:
Argentina have dropped out of the top 10 of the FIFA list for the first time since 1998, but if their performance against Ecuador in the Copa America was anything to go by, the two time world champions would be topping that list.
Argentina needed just 5 minutes to open their account with Cristian Gonzalez scoring from the spot after a foul by Ecuador defender Giovanny Espinoza on Luis Gonzalez in the penalty area.
Ecuador had to wait till the 61st minute to find the equaliser scored by Augustin Delgado with a powerful strike from the top of the area.
Then Javier Saviola decided to take centre stage putting Argentina in front three minutes later before adding another in the 74th minute to make it 3-1.
But the Barcelona striker wasn't done just yet. He finished the match off with a hattrik, another goal in the 79th minute. Argentina added further insult to injury by scoring two more to win the match 6-1.
In the other match of the day, Uruguay broke the deadlock against Mexico after 42 minutes. Carlos Bueno scored the only goal. Mexico however managed to go into the break on level terms with Orosio lobbing the keeper with what looked like an attempted cross.
15 minutes into the second half and Pavel Pardo put Mexico 2-1 ahead with a stunning shot from 25 yards out.
Uruguay who were reduced to 10 men in the 82nd minute still managed to stage an impressive comeback with Paolo Montero scoring the equaliser in the 88th minute to help his side end with 1 point from the game.
