Paris:

Paris Saint-Germain are expected to announce later Friday that Chelsea defender Alex will become the club's latest signing.

The 29-year-old Brazilian defender has played only three league games for Chelsea this season. His last appearance for coach Andre Villas-Boas' team was during a League Cup quarterfinal defeat against Liverpool two months ago.

PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti knows Alex well from his time at Chelsea. The rugged center half was part of the team that won the Premier League and FA Cup double under Ancelotti two seasons ago.

PSG signed Brazilian defender Maxwell from Barcelona earlier this month, taking its spending this season to about €90 million ($129 million).
