"Extremely proud. We fought hard, we communicated well and we managed to win a series against World No. 1. We spoke about it a lot, the way Ben and Bethell started, it was an outstanding partnership. Rooty did Rooty things and the way Jos finished. It was tough at time, but we did the job," said England skipper Harry Brook. 

"We gave too many runs in the last few overs and that's where the game went away from us. We knew if we had wickets in hand, we'd be in the game. (Positives) Almost everyone got runs in the matches. In this match, we didn't bowl well in the powerplay. Both their openers capitalised. In the death over, they took it too far away from us. (On Rohit and Kohli) They've done really well over the years. Very happy with how Rohit batted today. The way he batted was a treat to watch," said India skipper Shubman Gill. 

"These games are exciting. We wanted to win it, great to put my hand up. I am enjoying it, I really batting with Ben. He's a special man (on Sir Garry Sobers), he helped me on my way. It's great to do it in a game that was in memory of him," said Jacob Bethell. 

For India, Rohit Sharma scored 138, while Virat Kohli scored 74. Apart from them, captain Shubman Gill also scored 77 but India still lost the match by 27 runs. It was Sam Curran's spell which actually turned the tide in the favour of England as he took four wickets. England have clinched the three-match series 2-1. 

England (387/3) defeated India (360/7) by 27 runs in the third and final ODI of the three-match series. With this win, England have also clinched the three-match series with 2-1 scoreline.

Sam Curran takes his fourth wicket of the day and this time, he dismisses Axar Patel for 2.  Axar looks to take the aerial route straight down the ground but fails to middle it, getting the shot off the toe-end. Prince Yadav leaked 16 runs in the final over as England posted 387/3 in 50 overs against India in the third and final ODI of the three-match series. Ben Duckett was the top-scorer with 141 runs, while Jacon Bethell scored 91. Apart from them, Joe Root scored an unbeaten 74, while Jos Buttler also remained unbeaten at 41 off just 13 balls. With this, England scripted history as this become the highest-ever total by any team at Lord's. India now need 388 runs to win this match. 

India's problems continue to mount. They have now been penalised for a slow over-rate, which means an extra fielder must move inside the 30-yard circle. As a result, there is no fielder stationed in the deep on the off side.

Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever produced, passed away at his home in Barbados at the age of 89 on Friday. The players of both India and England are wearing black armbands and have also observed a minute's silence to pay tribute to the West Indies great.

"Jasprit Bumrah sustained an impact injury to his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was unavailable for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee," the BCCI informed about the ace pacer.

“I don't believe in speculation. Unless it happens, then only we can talk about that. I still feel he is good enough to play for a couple of years,” Rajput, who first watched Rohit as a youngster at the National Cricket Academy (now BCCI Centre of Excellence), told PTI.

“He is fit and has worked hard on his fitness. If you look at him now, he looks leaner. The way he batted in the last game, he showed glimpses of the Hitman. I think he is just one good innings away,” said Rajput, who also served as Indian team's manager during the triumphant 2007 ICC T20 World Cup campaign.

England captain Harry Brook was also asked about the chatter over Rohit Sharma's future. However, without getting into the details, Brook lauded both the Hitman and his long-term teammate Virat Kohli for the careers they've had so far. 

"I don't know what's been said about Rohit. They've (Rohit and Kohli) obviously been phenomenal players for many years, and it's good to see them still playing the game," Brook told reporters.

The BCCI rushed to dismiss reports of the Lord's ODI being Rohit Sharma's last, but there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that is not what is said in public. Rohit, at the age of 39, isn't what he was when India lost the final against Australia three years ago. If he intends to play for India in next year's World Cup, mere support from the right people isn't going to do him much good. The Lord's ODI would prove what the 'outside chatter' means for him and the response he wants to give with the bat.

While multiple media reports said that this might be Rohit Sharma's final game in India colours, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia rubbished the claims, saying the veteran batter will continue playing for the side. Regardless, Rohit's knock today will surely play a massive role in shaping the narrative around his international future.
