Mumbai:

Nine players of the Yorkshire cricket county are touring India for the first time. The players are at the World Cricket Academy in Mumbai to take advantage of the different playing conditions and superior quality of coaches and spinners. "We're obviously learning a lot of new techniques here. Back In England we don't play against spin like this and it is a very good opportunity to learn a lot of the tricks," said Richard Dawson, Member, Yorkshire Team. The Indian experience has often proved successful to many English players. The most prominent example is that of current England opener, Andrew Strauss who had come to Mumbai a couple of years ago. Since then he has scored seven test centuries. Philosophy on spin Yorkshire have been intending to come here for two years and though the county has been in some financial difficulty they were lucky to have an innovative marketing team who managed to raise finances for their trip. "We are listening to the coaches here and your philosophy on spin and it's really in the positions, balance and alignment of the feet and the head and the hitting areas where you're looking to hit the ball. And I've just been making note after note," said Kevin Sharp, Batting Coach, Yorkshire. The players are practicing twice a day and batting for at least an hour in each session in nets packed with quality spinners. Outdoor cricket Besides the expertise of Coach Hanumant Singh, they are also enjoying playing outdoor cricket. Currently, the weather in England would only permit them to play Indoor Cricket. "Our Coaches have proved that they are the best. That is why we get people from various parts of the world to the World Cricket Academy to improve their game," said Sachin Bajaj, CEO, World Cricket Academy. When the game began, it was the Indian Cricket players who went to England to learn how to play the game. Today it is various English players who come here to learn to play Cricket the Indian way.
