Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar has once again ventured into the racism row with some rather unsavoury comments.

Vengsarkar's racism remarks in bad taste

Mumbai:

Dilip Vengsarkar was under the spotlight a few weeks ago when the selection committee decided to leave Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid out of the One Day squad.

On that occasion he got off without too much of bother, but now he's really pushing his luck, venturing into the racism row with some rather unsavoury comments.

"I would like to wish the teams best of luck and I hope no one says monkey, big monkey or teri maaki just go and have fun," Dilip Vengsarkar said to be have commented at a Mumbai press conference.

That's a statement that could get Dilip Vengsarkar into a lot of trouble. The colonel was speaking at a corporate cricket event in Mumbai and his monkey analogies were definitely in poor taste.

But wait there was more, the colonel added to Sunil Gavaskar's scathing criticism of Mike Procter's handling of the Sydney Test by citing further examples where the South African match referee had 'allegedly' bungled up.

It is not just Mike Procter who has bungled up and who has some questions to answer, on this occasion, Dilip Vengsarkar, the chairman of selectors in India should have perhaps kept to his original plan of not answering any cricket questions at this press conference.

Instead he shot his mouth off yet again, and his statements could spark off a brand new controversy, something that the game really does not need right now.
