Millions may regard Sourav Ganguly as a hero. For the former India skipper though, Sumit Kumar is no less of a maverick himself. The 10-year-old who has aplastic anemia met the cricketer here on Saturday and both took back fond memories from their interaction.
Sumit had idolised Ganguly and his style of play and had always wanted to meet him. As part of an initiative by Make a Wish Foundation, Ganguly greeted him in a city hospital and presented him with an autographed bat and ball. "I felt very good. I told him you play very well and also your sixes are great. I have seen him playing in IPLs and World Cups. Bat and ball are the favourite of all that he gifted me," said Sumit.
For the Prince of Bengal, it was a heart-warming experience as well. He wished Sumit a speedy recovery. "The best thing about the guy is his spirit. Inspite of so many treatments, infections and blood transfusion his spirit is amazing, that's the best thing. This is the first time I met him and it was a complete different experience."
