Melbourne:

Fast bowler Shaun Tait, who temporarily retired from international cricket in January citing mental exhaustion, is prepared to make a comeback and share Australia'a bowling workload.

Tait has made himself available at a short notice this year if Australia needs an explosive weapon to help the overburdened Brett Lee, according to a report in the Australian.

The quick says he is targeting a return next season but admits he would not be able to refuse a SOS call from Australian selectors.

"If they called me tomorrow and said be ready in three weeks, I'd do it," Tait said.

"I don't know what frame of mind the selectors are in. I know I can't waltz back into an Australian cap but I am keen to get back. I am definitely coming back to play, it is a matter of when," he said.

Tait insists he now is in a better frame of mind.

The 25-year-old's is going through an intensive exercise program and is set to resume net bowling soon.

The most likely scenario is that he will have to play the start of the next domestic season for South Australia before he is considered for the national side.

But there is a possibility that Tait may be needed earlier.

The burden of Australia's bowling spearhead Lee is now a burning issue and with Mitchell Johnson struggling, the calls for Tait to return are bound to become louder.

Australia has the Champions Trophy and a tough Test tour in India this year and there may come a time when an SOS to Tait is considered.

"I'm doing gym work five days a week and my body feels great, there's no problems," Tait said.
