Mohammad Mahmudullah Profile

A middle-order batsman and a part time off spinner, Mahmudullah started playing first-class cricket for Dhaka Division in 2005, and was soon elevated to Bangladesh's A team after fine performances on the domestic front.

Mahmudullah made his ODI debut in 2007 against Sri Lanka. He had an impressive outing, picking up a couple of wickets, and scoring a well-knitted 36, yet Bangladesh lost that match. He then went on to score his first fifty in ODIs against Pakistan, thus cementing his place in the side.

Known to his team mates as 'Riyad', he went on to play his first T20I match against Kenya in quadrangular series. However, he was dropped from the ODI team that went to New Zealand and was replaced by Nazmul Hossain, clearly a better medium pace option on the Kiwi pitches. In 2009, Mahmudullah made a dream start to his Test career as he bagged nine wickets in his maiden Test outing, helping Bangladesh seal a series win over the West Indies. A couple of years later, he was appointed vice-captain of the side, after Tamim Iqbal was axed from that position.
