Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has parted ways with the national Test team head coach Azhar Mahmood three months before the expiry of his contract, according to sources.

Former cricketer Azhar Mahmood has ended his coaching stint with Pakistan's Test cricket team with immediate effect, according to ESPNcricinfo on Tuesday.

Pakistan were 150 for 4, and then lost 6 for 17 on Day 3 of the first Test against South Africa.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come undere the scanner for appointing Azhar Mahmood as interim head coach of the team.

Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood was on Monday elevated to the post of Pakistan's acting red-ball head coach until the conclusion of his current contract, which runs until April next year.

Azhar Mahmood has been dropped from Pakistan's support staff for the home series against Bangladesh.

The PCB had named one of their selectors, Aaqib Javed as their interim head coach until the T20 series in New Zealand.
