Joe Root is drawn into the shot and takes a poke at it. The outside edge is found and Daryl Mitchell at first slip does seem to pick the ball a bit late. It had to take something special to get Brook out today! Nathan Smith, from over the wicket, bowls a good length ball, around middle, nips in, Harry Brook nudges it beside the pitch on the leg side and runs a couple of steps further but Chris Woakes is adamant in his crease and sends back Brook.  Nathan Smith is quick enough to get the ball to his right on his follow-through and knocks the stumps down at the batting end with Brook well short of his crease. William O'Rourke has been troubling Pope since morning and he finally gets his man! O'Rourke bangs it into the deck, outside off, Ollie Pope tries to get on top of the bounce and looks to drag the pull from outside off. The extra bounce results in Pope getting a top edge that goes straight up around the short mid-wicket region. Rachin Ravindra at short leg runs to his left and there is a bit of miscommunication between him and the mid on fielder, Matt Henry but eventually Rachin takes it with his hands out in front. Coming in from around the wicket, William O'Rourke pitches it on a back of a length, just around that probing line on off, straightens enough, and squares Stokes as he gets his bat out in front to defend. The ball takes a healthy outside edge and Tom Latham in the second slip takes it easily. That was an absolute seed from William O'Rourke and Ben Stokes couldn't do much about it!  222/6

Bowls on a good length, around middle and it nips back in after pitching, Rachin Ravindra tries to block it with the full face of the bat but only manages to get an inside edge onto his thigh pad. The ball balloons in the air as Brydon Carse runs in from mid-wicket and puts in a full-length dive ahead. It is referred upstairs and the replays show that Carse has his fingers underneath the ball. Gets beaten on the inside edge and gets rapped on the crouched back leg. As plumb as it could get. New Zealand are now 96/7, trailing by 184 runs.  96/7

The ball gets too big on him and he tries to get out of the way but it is too late by then. He tries to take the bottom hand off the bat. 34.5 OUT! LBW! GUS ATKINSON HAS A TEST HAT-TRICK! This one is bowled fuller and on the off stump, slightly nips in. Tim Southee is caught inside his crease as he tries to play at it with just his hands, gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball thuds onto the front pad. Atkinson does not even bother appealing and is off on a celebratory run. The English fielders go up and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Tim Southee sends it upstairs, more in hope than anything else. The UltraEdge shows a flat line. The Ball Tracking comes up with three reds with the ball crashing into the middle and the leg stump. Bowled full and just outside off, nips just that slight bit away off the wicket. Jacob Bethell is drawn into the drive, goes for it and takes a faint outside edge. The keeper, Tom Blundell does the rest behind the wicket. New Zealand are ecstatic. Bethell falls 4 runs short of a hundred. The 187-run stand is broken. The outside edge is found and it goes low to the right of Tom Blundell who dives and sticks out his right glove. The ball does seem to slip out of his grasp and it is referred upstairs. The replays show that Blundell just about manages to hold onto the catch even after making hard contact with the ground. Root falls for 106 and with his departure, the declaration comes from England. 62.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Harry Brook holes out! Glenn Phillips comes in from over the wicket, bowls it full and slower through the air, turning into the batter. Harry Brook premeditates stepping out and tries to whack it over the long off boundary. He gets more height than distance on it and it goes only as far as long off where William O'Rourke settles under it and does the rest. Brook goes for 55 (61).
