New Delhi:
Spinner Bryce McGain has been ruled out of contention for Australia's first Test against India next week with a shoulder injury.
The leggie was considered the leading candidate to make his Test debut in Bangalore after incumbent Beau Casson was overlooked for the tour.
McGain injured the shoulder playing for Australia A on their tour to India last month.
If McGain had played in the first Test, he would have been the oldest Australian Test debutant since fellow leggie Bob Holland, at 38, decimated the West Indies in 1984.
