That's it from this game! Lucknow lose their second match after winning three on the bounce. This win takes Rajasthan to the top of the points table. What a nail-biter this fixture was and expect some more on the way. We will be back on 11th April, Monday where Hyderabad will take on Gujarat. It's a battle between fire and ice. You don't want to miss that. That game will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but the build-up will begin well in advance. Make sure you tune in for that. Until then, adios!
Yuzvendra Chahal wins the Man of the Match award for his exceptional spell with the ball (4-0-41-4). He says, there was just a bad patch that he was going through earlier. Says, his main strength is his mind and he used it to focus it on getting back into the game. Further says, he is the happiest by taking Quinton de Kock’s wicket. Says, he does not think much about achieving records. Says, there won’t be much reels coming out anymore, with too many games around the corner.
Sanju Samson, the skipper of Rajasthan is up for a chat. He says that it feels good to be at the top of the table. Mentions that he was confident about Kuldeep Sen and he bowled very well. Tells that he saw him in Syed Mushtaq and he nails his wide yorkers. Informs that Trent Boult came to him and said that change of plans and just informed him that he will be bowling from 'round the wicket. Tells that Boult's skills are commendable. Laughs that conversations with Hetmyer are funny. Says that it's just about have you eaten, have you slept well and is he happy, that's it. Tells that he has a lot of experience and has a great cricketing sense and is doing the job for them. On asked about Ashwin's retired out, he says that it is just about being Rajasthan and different from others. Credits Chahal for bowling well and says that he is the greatest leg-spinner India has seen in the present.
Trent Boult is in for a quick chat. He says, it was a late call to bowl over the wickets to KL Rahul. Mentions, it was Jimmy Neesham who persuaded him for the same. Adds, it was a good feeling to get a couple wickets in the end. Mentions, he just aims to pitch it up and use the new ball to its benefit. Says, there is some language barrier with Kuldeep but he bowled with fire throughout and adds that it has been very exciting to see him zip the ball.
KL Rahul, the skipper of Lucknow, starts by saying he did not even see the ball served by Boult. Says that there is a good depth in the side. Adds that even with 20/3 the teams still believed they could get over the line if they played to their potential. Mentions, sending Stoinis down the order was always the plan. Adds the depth really makes it easier for him to shuffle the pack and pressurises that the side will continue to remain unpredictable whenever required. Mentions, their death bowling has really stood out in the past games. Says, the bowler can have an off day and as a team, they will just learn from it and try to be better next time around.
Stick around for the interviews....
You just can't write a script for such an over. You just dream of it - That is what Alan Wilkins described on-air after watching the first over of Trent Boult as he took the matter into his own hands and got KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham in the first over itself bowling two lovely inswinging deliveries. If that wasn't enough Prasidh Krishna got a wicket as well later to put Rajasthan completely on top. Their bowlers maintained the pressure throughout and never let Lucknow to get away with the game. Yuzvendra Chahal took a total of 4 wickets in the match and things seemed to be done and dusted but things got pretty close towards the end as 15 runs were needed off the last over. However, the debutant Kuldeep Sen kept his calm and defended it in the end. Sensational bowling performance from Rajasthan and they have got another 2 important points in their bag.
Lucknow had a below-par total to chase but had the worst of starts as KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham departed for ducks and Jason Holder got out for a timid score as well inside the Powerplay itself. They were put under tremendous pressure and it was up to Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda to bail them out of the situation but it wasn't to be. None of their batters seemed to be in their elements and couldn't play a breezy inning which was the need of the hour for Lucknow except for Marcus Stoinis who took the game pretty deep and batted amazingly well as he almost took his team over the line but in the end, lost the game by just 3 runs. A positive thing for them to take though as they have paid big bucks for Marcus Stoinis in the auction and playing his first game this season, he showed great signs and batted very positively.
What a game of cricket! Absolute thriller! Pretty sure everyone watching the game were biting their nails till the last ball. Rajasthan needed something special from their bowlers after managing to get just 165 on a Wankhede pitch and their bowlers didn't disappoint them. Kuldeep Sen did absoultely well to defend 15 runs off the last over especially after Prasidh Krishna conceding 19 runs in the peunultimate over. Their bowlers rose to the occasion and stepped up handing them the win. Credit to Marcus Stoinis though who playing a fabulous knock at the end. If Krunal Pandya had taken that catch of Hetmyer when he was on 14, things might have ended differently for them but nevertheless, they ended up on the wrong side and would be looking to make amends in the next game.
