That's a wrap to this game. Saturday turned out to be tough for the chasing teams. Mumbai suffered their 6th straight loss of the season while Delhi too failed to cross the line. Get ready for a double-header on Sunday as well. Punjab will be facing Hyderabad at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) and Gujarat will take on Chennai at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Dinesh Karthik (66* off 34 balls) is the unanimous choice for the Player of the Match award! Says that he has a bigger goal in life and he has been working very hard. Adds that he wants to be a part of the Indian team and do something really good for the country. On how he decides which bowler to attack, DK replies that it depends on the bowlers, like Kuldeep Yadav was bowling well so he treated him with respect and targeted the others. Shares that batting at the backend gives him the chance to get under the ball and he has tried that a lot and it seems to be working for him. Further says that it's good to know that people are associating him with calmness and he tries to stay in the moment. Emphasizes preparation by saying that position and calmness come if you prepare well. Tells that Shahbaz Ahmed is a very special player and he has got a very calm head.
Faf du Plessis, the winning captain of Bangalore, starts by looking apologetic for not scoring enough runs himself. Says that their top order isn't contributing much but it is good that the other batters are scoring runs. Tells that it is good to see Glenn Maxwell hitting the ball so well. Adds that they had planned a lot of things as far as their death bowling is concerned and he is glad that they stuck to their plans and executed them this evening. Says it is important to give confidence to the players who are not doing well and talking about Dinesh Karthik, Faf says that he is in the form of his life and is very clear with his plans, which is so good to see. On being asked about bowling first yet again, he tells that dew plays a major factor, so all teams are opting to bowl first.
Josh Hazlewood is up for a quick chat. The Aussie says that at times he looks to bowl the Test match lines and lengths but it all comes down to adapting to the conditions. Adds that change of pace is very crucial on these sorts of wickets and it worked well for him in this game. Mentions that bowling dot balls is very important and it really puts pressure on the batters. Shares that he is also working hard on his yorkers. Mentions that they are a very good side and it is good to have the likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell around.
Rishabh Pant, the skipper of Delhi, is in for a chat. Says that Warner batted beautifully and gave them a good chance of winning the game. Tells that they can't blame Mitchell Marsh for the way he batted as it was his first game, and hence, he was rusty. Mentions that they bowled well but the over of Mustafizur Rahman (his 4th over went for 28 runs) changed the course of the game. Says that they executed their plans well with the ball but Dinesh Karthik batted exceptionally well in the end. He feels that they will need to learn from their mistakes and get better in the next game.
Stay tuned for the interviews...
Early in the evening, blazing knocks from Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik propelled Bangalore to 189. The former lifted the scoring rate in the middle phase while the latter once again was at his devastating best at the death. Delhi bowled well in patches but looked clueless whenever put under pressure. Not many will remember but Karthik was dropped on 5 by Rishabh Pant and that proved to be fatal. They have a lot of soul-searching to do in both departments of the game, especially on how to close the bowling and batting innings.
The conditions were not easy to bowl but the Bangalore bowlers put on a clinical show. They were under pressure as long as David Warner was in the middle but after his dismissal, they grabbed the match by the scruff of the neck. Josh Hazlewood was the standout performer with a 3-wicket haul while the rest rallied around him decently.
In pursuit of a very challenging target, David Warner took the early charge and along with Prithvi Shaw, the Aussie provided Delhi with a fine start. After the departure of Shaw, Bangalore pulled back the strings and Marsh started rustily to allow them to bowl a few quiet overs. The pressure mounted on Warner and in an attempt to up the scoring rate, he departed while trying a switch hit. It was a steady procession of wickets thereafter as the chase fell flat on its face for Delhi.
Where did Delhi lose the match? In the last 5 overs of both innings to be precise. Bangalore were 115/5 after 15 overs in the first innings but the onslaught from Dinesh Karthik powered them to 189. During the chase, Delhi were also 115/5 after 15 overs but their batting tanked at the backend. DK was the difference between the two sides and his batting has won Bangalore yet another game this season.
Excellent win for Bangalore! They fought hard in the field, showed a lot of intensity and planning, and the execution was brilliant from their bowlers. Bangalore have ticked a lot of boxes this evening and will be very pleased with the outcome of this match.

Josh Hazlewood To Shardul Thakur OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Josh Hazlewood bags his third wicket and it is the dangerous Shardul Thakur who takes the long walk back to the pavilion. Josh runs in and hits the deck hard, around off, cramping Thakur for room. Shardul looks to pull hard but he gets a top edge which goes high in the night sky towards the point region.
