Right then, that's all from this game. It is Mumbai who have secured their first win of the season whereas Delhi will have to wait a little longer for their first victory. The Indian T20 League, 2023 action continues on Wednesday, 12th April where Chennai will host Rajasthan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and the first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). As always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai is the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 65 runs from 45 balls. He says that getting over the line is a good feeling. Adds that they have been working hard with the team and getting the first win is always special and they will cherish it. Tells that they played a Test here not long ago and the pitch did not look that different and that is why they selected the spinners which turned out to be a good decision and credits his pacers as well. Mentions that when he went out to bat his plan was to make use of the Powerplay and then see how the game goes. Tells that Tilak Varma batted well too and the big partnership with him was crucial. Says that they have a lot of youngsters and they need to back them up to give them confidence and they don't want to make drastic changes according to results. Ends by saying they want to create a good atmosphere.
Time for the presentations...
One of the stars with the bat for Mumbai, Cameron Green is in for a chat. He says that he is barely breathing, but is happy to be on the winning end. Tells that the chat between him and David was to be busy at the wicket and luckily they were able to hit a few maximums. Mentions that they are here for moments like this and it is exciting. Ends by saying that he knew he was safe when the throw went to the other end and says that Tim David is a big man and can dive.
David Warner, the skipper of Delhi, says that the last three games have been amazing in this tournament. Adds that he is disappointed to be on the wrong end, but credits his bowlers to make a game out of it. Tells that Anrich Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman were brilliant, and in this format, it only takes one or two balls to change the game. Mentions that as Tim David was running at the batter's end he tried to throw over him, but it did not work out. Says that they need to stop losing wickets in clumps as it kills the momentum, and praises Axar Patel for his amazing knock, but admits that the par total was around 180 here.
Earlier in the game, after Rohit Sharma called it right and opted to bowl first, Delhi did lose Prithvi Shaw early but David Warner and Manish Pandey kept the scoreboard ticking by scoring freely. The duo stitched a 43-run stand and at that stage, Delhi were going along nicely in their batting effort. However, Pandey's dismissal meant Delhi lost their way during the middle overs. Axar Patel joined David Warner and forged a solid recovery with a 67-run partnership. After the departure of Axar Patel, no other batter was able to maximize the final two overs and Delhi were bowled out inside the 20 overs. For Mumbai, Jason Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla were the stars with the ball accounting for 3 wickets each.
After failing to bat the full quota of 20 overs, Delhi had their backs against the wall and they surely gave it their all in their bowling effort. The home team did not manage to start well and they leaked a lot of runs in the Powerplay. Their spinners did find some good purchases on this surface but were unable to find any success during the middle overs. They did manage to get rid of Tilak Varma and capitalised on that scalp by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma in the space of a few deliveries. At that stage, Delhi sensed an opening but it was always going to be tough against the strong batting unit of Mumbai. With only 4 runs to defend, Anrich Nortje bowled an exceptional final over but it wasn't enough on the night.
In their pursuit of 173, Mumbai were off to a flying start courtesy of the opening pair. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan found boundaries at will and the away side raced to 70 in 7 overs. Just when the duo was going along nicely, a mixup between the two resulted in the departure of Ishan Kishan. This unfortunate dismissal did not deter Rohit Sharma as he kept going at the other end and ensured that Mumbai kept up with the required run rate. Tilak Varma was at his fluent best as well and stitched a 68-run stand with his skipper. At that stage, it looked like Mumbai would cruise home but they were pegged back, losing three wickets in quick succession. Impact Player Tim David was sent into bat and he along with Cameron Green steadied the ship. With 5 runs needed off the final over, Tim David and Cameron Green failed to find the big shots against Anrich Nortje but held their nerves to take Mumbai over the line.
The Indian T20 League, 2023 continues to deliver cliffhangers every night and at the end of this one, it is Mumbai who come out on top. Mumbai were made to work hard but they are finally off the mark in the Indian T20 League, 2023. As far as Delhi are concerned, it was a case of so near yet so far but they will take pride in taking the game till the final ball.

Anrich Nortje To Tim David
Mumbai win a thriller here! Anrich Nortje nails a low full toss around off, Tim David jams it out towards long off and sets off for the run, the batters turn around for the second as David Warner charges onto the ball and throws it at the keeper's end, but his throw is too high and Abishek Porel has to jump and collect and then break the stumps as Tim David puts in a desperate dive. The replay shows that David is in safely. MUMBAI WIN BY SIX WICKETS!
More drama as Tim David has asked for a change of bat. Is this the bat that takes Mumbai over the line?
