India beat England by 150 runs
They say when in Mumbai, you will be entertained for sure. And that's exactly what happened this evening. While the match ended up as a one-sided affair, the spectators were entertained with 24 towering sixes, and the hosts lit up the stadium with a remarkable bowling dominance. That is a wrap then! India has clinched this 5-match series by 4-1 as this T20I series concludes here in Mumbai, but worry not, as the two teams will now prepare for a thrilling 3-match ODI series which will prove to be the dress rehearsal for the approaching Champions Trophy later this month. That series will cover the cities of Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad respectively. The first ODI will be played at the famous Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur and the first ball will bowled at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT) on Thursday, 6th February. Till then, cheers and take care!
Now then, Suryakumar Yadav gets the trophy from the dignitaries and walks to his teammates who await their skipper at the winner's board. SKY hands over the trophy to the youngsters of the team and the entire Indian squad poses for commemorative photographs.
The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav says that it is always about being instinctive at the ground. Mentions that the guys work really hard in the nets and keep practising to do well in the game and are really pleased with their efforts. Adds that they have talked in detail about what brand of cricket they need to play and just want to keep sticking to it. Admits that it is a high-risk high-reward game, but end of the day, they are getting the results. On Abhishek Sharma's performance, he says that he is very happy for him and also appreciates Varun Chakravarthy for being consistent. Says that he has relentlessly worked hard in the practice sessions. Calls him a process-oriented man who always wants to work on something new.
Varun Chakravarthy is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for picking 14 wickets in the series. He says that the team emphasizes a lot on fielding and he is happy to do well in the field. Shares that he has worked hard with the fielding coach. Tells that despite the way the series panned out for him, there is still a lot of scope for improvement. Adds that England are a top side and he did not take them for granted. Mentions that it was about bowling the right deliveries at the right time. Mentions that bagging the first Player of the Series award of his career is a special feeling. Dedicates this award to his son, his wife and his parents. Ends by thanking Suryakumar Yadav and the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir for backing him.
India's Abhishek Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his glittering century along with two wickets with the ball. He collects the trophy and is up for a chat. He begins by saying that it was a special innings for him as it came for the country. Adds that when he feels it is his day, he always tries to go hard from the first ball. Appreciates the coach and the skipper for backing his skills and allowing him to play with freedom. Mentions that when the opponent bowlers are clocking above 140  kph constantly, you need to prepare well against them and be ready a little earlier and just react to the ball. Admits that hitting a world-class bowler like Jofra Archer is always great but mentions that he liked the shots that he played against Adil Rashid. Is overjoyed and says that his mentor, Yuvraj Singh would be very happy seeing his performance. Adds that he has always wanted him to bat into the death overs and he just tried to implement the same.
The captain of England, Jos Buttler says that they are disappointed to lose the series. Mentions that India are a fantastic side and that his team will get better with the experience of playing in these conditions. Lauds Mark Wood and Brydon Carse for the way they bowled. States that Abhishek Sharma's innings was as good as any he has seen. Shares that they are excited to welcome Joe Root into the side and that they are looking forward to the ODI series.
The Presentation Ceremony...
Shivam Dube is in for a chat. He says that it feels great when you contribute as an all-rounder to the team. Mentions that he was excited to bowl after missing out in the previous game. Adds that he enjoyed bowling on this wicket. Shares that he just wanted to keep the momentum going when he went in to bat. Tells that he has been working with Morne Morkel on using the angles while bowling.
Earlier in the game, Jos Buttler once again invited India to set the target at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, only to witness the Abhishek Sharma show - a masterclass in aggressive batting that lit up Mumbai's skyline with a barrage of sixes. The young left-hander blazed his way to a breathtaking century off just 37 deliveries, spearheading India's score to a massive 247 runs. While England's bowling appeared one-dimensional, Sharma's bat spoke multiple languages, finding boundaries at will and ease. Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma also joined the six-hitting bandwagon, though wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Amidst the onslaught, Brydon Carse emerged as England's saving grace, his clever variations provided breakthroughs when his teammates struggled to find answers. He picked up a three-fer while Wood picked two to his name.
The writing was pretty much on the wall as the tourists lost too many quick wickets, with their premier range hitters dismissed as well. It was that kind of a day for Abhishek Sharma where whatever he touched, turned into gold. He continued to rule the evening as he struck the first ball as well and went on to pick up the double whammy. What started as a good start from England, ended up in one-way traffic as they fell like a pack of cards from 68/3, and got bundled up on a paltry 97 runs.
In the quest to go bang bang, England did show intent but kept losing wickets against the spinners as Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi dented the English top order swiftly. It however looked like Salt was batting on a different track and smashed the fastest fifty in T20Is by any English batter against India in T20Is, taking just 21 deliveries to do so. The ploy to bring in Shivam Dube into the attack played well for the hosts as he dismissed the only well-set batter in Phil Salt on his very first delivery.
With a mountainous target to chase, England had no option other than to come out all guns blazing. It was Phil Salt who provided a strong start for England as he found regular boundaries. However, England lost too many wickets from the other end inside the Powerplay, including the skipper. Salt though continued his merry way and England raced to 68 in the Powerplay, but they did lose three wickets in the process.
So good with bat, and so good with the ball as well. India have bamboozled England, restricting them below three figures. Another dramatic collapse became England's nemesis as they were in a decent position at 68/3 at the end of the Powerplay, but things went absolutely downhill for them after that, losing seven wickets in just 29 runs. A victory by a 150-odd run is indeed a massive one for any side and this young Indian team has done the job with perfection.

DRINKS BREAK! Well, what started as a strong start for England has now turned into a procession of wickets at the Wankhede. This typically happens in mountainous run chases like this - either the chasing side goes bang bang and gives a tough fight, or just collapses quickly. Here, the latter has happened and the visitors have been badly dented by the Indian bowlers. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi set the tone for India with the ball and Abhishek Sharma along with Shivam Dube too, chipped in with wickets to their name. The writing is on the wall now and it is now just about how long it takes India to wrap things up quickly and get these two remaining wickets.
