Worcester:

South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn will miss the third Test against England after having his left thumb put in a cast following a second examination by a Worcester surgeon.

Steyn suffered the injury while stopping a return drive by Alistair Cook during the second Test victory at Leeds earlier this week.

The team management had originally hoped that he would recover in time for next week's third Test at Edgbaston.

There is still a chance that he will be fit for the final Test at The Oval as his cast is due to be removed and the thumb re-x-rayed that week.

The Proteas have good fast bowling cover in Andre Nel and Monde Zondeki, so there is no need for a replacement at this stage.
