India may rest Ishant for ODI series

New Delhi:

The BCCI selection committee meets in Mumbai later on Thursday to decide on a fifteen-member squad for the five-match One-day series in Sri Lanka, starting August 18.

While Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla and Manpreet Gony could be on their way out of the team, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan are likely to make a comeback in the side. Uthappa is likely to make way for Virat Kohli after making just one fifty in his last twenty outings.

Chawla though is a little unfortunate. It is believed that the selectors are more keen to retain Pragyan Ojha as his left-arm spin adds variety to the attack.

Harbhajan will return to ODI action for the first time since slap gate, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan will return to the team after recovering from injuries. Sreesanth remains out of contention as he's still nursing his injury.

Meanwhile, it is also believed that Ishant Sharma could be rested and Munaf Patel could take his place. Sources have indicated that the team management wants Ishant fit and fresh for the Test series against Australia.

This is what the 15-man is likely to be:

1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain)
2. Yuvraj Singh (vice-captain)
2. Sachin Tendulkar
4. Virender Sehwag
5. Gautam Gambhir
6. Rohit Sharma
7. Suresh Raina
8. Virat Kohli
9. Pragyan Ojha
10. Harbhajan Singh
11. Irfan Pathan
12. Praveen Kumar
13. RP Singh
14. Ishant Sharma/Munaf Patel
15. Zaheer Khan
