Here's a look at the highlights of the first day of first Test match between India and New Zealand at Hamilton.

  • Daniel Vettori's third hundred in Tests is his first against India.

  • Daniel Vettori (118 off 164 balls) posted his first ever hundred as skipper - his best score against India, eclipsing the 60 at Ahmedabad in October 2003.

  • Vettori's previous best as skipper was 94 against Bangladesh at Wellington in 2007-08.

  • Vettori is the fifth New Zealand captain to post a hundred against India, joining Graham Dowling, Geoff Howarth, Glenn Turner (two) and John Wright (two).

  • By taking Martin Guptill's catch, Rahul Dravid has now the same tally as Mark Waugh. Both now share a world record for most catches (181) in Tests.

  • Jesse Ryder has equalled a New Zealand Test record for most fifty-plus (4) in a row, joining , Bevan Congdon (twice), Jeremy Coney, Ken Rutherford, Martin Donnelly and Bert Sutcliffe

  • Ryder in his previous three innings had made 89 against West Indies at Dunedin and 57 & 59 not out against West Indies at Napier, all three in 2008-09

  • Ryder's 102 off 162 balls is his maiden century in Test Cricket, surpassing the 91 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in October 2008.

  • Ryder and Vettori were involved in a 186-run stand for the seventh wicket - New Zealand's best against India.

  • New Zealand's innings of 279 is the lowest total to include two centuries. Australia's 284 against West Indies at Brisbane in 1968-69 had two centurions - Bill Lawry 105 & Ian Chappell 117.

  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the fourth Indian wicketkeeper to complete the double of 1000 runs + 100 dismissals. Syed Kirmani (198), Kiran More (130) and Nayan Mongia (107) were the first three.

  • Dhoni's feat of accomplishing the wicketkeepers' double in 36 Tests is the fastest by an Indian.
