Batsman | R | B | 4s | 6s | SR |

Matthew Short | 29 | 36 | 4 | 1 | 80.55 |
c Jamie Smith b Matthew Potts
11.4 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! The bowling change works and Australia have lost both their openers. The slip was removed before this over and maybe, that was going on in Short's mind. Full, outside off, a touch wide, just about dangling the carrot, asking Short to drive. The batter obliges and goes hard on the cover drive but the feet do not move in time. The outside edge is generated and it goes quickly behind, but the keeper, Jamie Smith is quick as lightning to dive full stretch to his right to take it. Another start and out for Short, as he departs after doing all the hard work, seeing off the new balls. He goes for 29 (36) and Australia are 64/2, having lost both their openers in the span of 3 overs for 18 runs. 64/2

Travis Head | 29 | 27 | 4 | 2 | 107.40 |
c Olly Stone b Brydon Carse
8.5 OUT! CAUGHT! England get rid of the dangerous Head. It did seem like Olly Stone would be the one who could dismiss him and eventually, he has been involved in the dismissal. Carse has to believe he has got massively lucky here. It is a nothing delivery, a length ball on the pads and Travis Head whips it nonchalantly. The connection is sweet, the timing is good but the direction is not! He has picked out Stone to perfection at deep backward square leg who makes no mistake. Head departs for a fine cameo of 29 (27) and Australia are 46/1 after 8.5 overs. 46/1
Mitchell Marsh C | 60 | 59 | 6 | 3 | 101.69 |
lbw b Jacob Bethell
26.2 OUT! LBW! Bethell gets two wickets in the span of 5 balls. Pretty full and straight, Mitchell Marsh gets down to sweep but misses and is hit on the pads. Bethell appeals and umpire Joel Wilson raises his finger in a flash. Marsh has a chat with his partner but thinks better than to take the review. That was dead plumb. Another batter who gets a start but then throws it away. Marsh departs for 60 (59) and Australia are 151/5 after 26.2 overs. 151/5

Steven Smith | 4 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 66.66 |
b Matthew Potts
14 OUT! BOWLED! Oh well, someone please stop Potts, because he is absolutely flying! What a perfect delivery. The ball is still nipping around and Smith is shuffling across, trying to counter the same. But the ball is pitched on a perfect length, just between good and full and catches Smith on the walk. That's not the only thing. It nips back off the seam viciously to catch the veteran completely off guard. Takes the inside edge, hits the pads and deflects onto the stumps. Smith rarely seems to agree that he was defeated by a good ball but while walking back to the dressing room, he seems to indicate that it was an absolute peach and he could not do anything about it. Human after all. Smith departs for 4 (6) and Australia losing their way now - 46/0 becomes 89/3! 89/3

Marnus Labuschagne | 19 | 28 | 1 | 0 | 67.85 |
c Liam Livingstone b Jacob Bethell
24.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Another batter goes on a bad ball. England won't mind one bit as Australia gift a second wicket to them. First, it was Head and now, it is Labuschagne. Short ball, around off, Marnus Labuschagne rocks back and pulls. It should have gone to the boundary but it does not. Because the ball comes a touch slower, takes the toe end of the bat and lobs tamely to mid on where Liam Livingstone takes it with a leap. Labuschagne departs for 19 (28) and Australia are 145/4 after 24.4 overs, with the 56-run stand broken. 145/4

Alex Carey Wk | 74 | 67 | 8 | 3 | 110.44 |
c Phil Salt b Olly Stone
44.4 OUT! CAUGHT! England break the frustrating last-wicket partnership at last on 49. A length ball, outside off, coming in with the angle from around the wicket, Alex Carey predictably looks to go off side, backing away and punches it over cover. But he cannot quite get enough on it to clear Phil Salt at sweeper cover who makes no mistake, running in. AUSTRALIA ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 270 WITH 32 BALLS LEFT UNUSED! 270/10
Glenn Maxwell | 7 | 5 | 0 | 1 | 140 |
c Jacob Bethell b Adil Rashid
27.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Six and out for Maxi. Australia doing an England from the first ODI - throwing it away from a good position. Short ball, outside off, Glenn Maxwell looks to pull it away but cannot quite get enough bat on it. The ball comes on slowly and hence, hits the toe end. As a result, there is not much elevation and the ball goes flat to deep mid-wicket. Jacob Bethell makes no mistake there. 200 ODI WICKETS FOR ADIL RASHID, in his 131st ODI inning, third quickest after Saqlain Mushtaq and Shane Warne! Maxwell departs for 7 (5) and Australia slips from 145/3 to 161/6. 161/6
Aaron Hardie | 23 | 25 | 3 | 0 | 92 |
c Matthew Potts b Brydon Carse
35.1 OUT! CAUGHT! The bowling change works immediately and a big smile flashes across Brook's face. Carse has been expensive today but he will take those two wickets - first Head and now, Hardie. A short ball, outside off, Aaron Hardie immediately sets himself up for the pull, But he is completely done in by the pace, which is more than 90 miles per hour. Additionally, Carse gets a good lift from the bumper and as a result, the pull shot attempted results into a massive top edge. The ball goes straight up in the air and Matthew Potts waits calmly for it at short mid-wicket. Another budding stand of 55 has been broken as Hardie departs for 23 (25). Australia are 216/7 with 89 balls still left in the innings. 216/7
Mitchell Starc | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Matthew Potts b Brydon Carse
35.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Two in two for Carse who is not only on a hattrick but could be in line for a 5-fer as well! Another nothing ball, but everything to gain for England from it. It is a length delivery, on the pads, Mitchell Starc looks to flick it casually and connects nicely as well. But he cannot clear square leg and it is a simple catch for Matthew Potts again! Forget how much Australia can get, how many overs can they face from here on? 216/8
Adam Zampa | 3 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 60 |
c Olly Stone b Adil Rashid
36.3 OUT! CAUGHT! 9 down now. Leg spinner gets leg spinner. Not with the best of deliveries either. A short ball, outside off, Adam Zampa punches it away but straight to Olly Stone at backward point and Australia continues their path on a slippery slope. 216/6 becomes 221/9 in the span of 9 balls. 221/9

c Alex Carey b Josh Hazlewood
4 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! No review needed for this one. Australia have an early strike. It almost looked like an action replay of all the balls bowled by Hazlewood to Salt in this innings, barring that one edgy shot that went for a boundary. As mentioned earlier, this machine with a 100-year warranty does not care who is batting and how is the batting. Just keeps honing on a good length, just outside off. This one nips back in as well and as always, Salt tries to force it through the line. Gets cramped for room once more and this time, nicks it to Alex Carey, the keeper. Salt departs for 12 (14), England are 26/1 and need another 245 from 276 balls. 26/1
Ben Duckett | 32 | 25 | 4 | 1 | 128 |
c & b Aaron Hardie
9.2 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! That's an absolute screamer. A length ball, around off, Duckett looks to swing this out of the park. But the ball holds onto the pitch for a while and arrives late. Duckett is already through his shot and his bottom hand comes off the handle. The ball hits the toe end of the bat and flies wide of the bowler but Aaron Hardie, moving in that direction in his followthrough, sticks out his left hand and takes an absolute blinder. Duckett waits for a check from the umpire whether Hardie collected it cleanly and on getting the affirmative, turns back. Big wicket for Australia as the in-form Duckett departs for 32 (25). England are 65/4 and need another 206 from 242 balls. 65/4

Will Jacks | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Matthew Short b Mitchell Starc
4.3 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Starc strikes now. Full, outside off, Will Jacks plays a loose drive, away from his body. The ball moves away, takes the outside edge and flies behind. Matthew Short redeems himself after that drop of Salt early on, as he flings himself to his right at second slip and takes the catch with both hands. Jacks gets a golden duck and England lose 2/2 in 4 balls. Need another 243 from 273 balls. 28/2
Harry Brook C | 4 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 44.44 |
lbw b Mitchell Starc
7 OUT! LBW! That is a Starc special. Ashes fans would be remembering how he cleaned up Ollie Pope at Lord's in 2023. This is more or less of that quality. A killer inswinging yorker, around middle, Harry Brook looks to dig it out but the ball swings back in pretty late and that defeats him. Gets hit on the pads and Joel Wilson does not take long to raise his finger. Brook has a chat with Duckett and signals for the review. The replay seems to suggest that Brook might have hit it but UltraEdge detects a flat line when the ball passes the bat. Ball Tracker then projects the ball to be crashing into leg stump, meaning England lose both, their skipper and a review. 4 and out for Brook, England are 46/3 and need another 225 from 258 balls. 46/3

Jamie Smith Wk | 49 | 61 | 6 | 2 | 80.32 |
c sub Jake Fraser-McGurk b Josh Hazlewood
30.3 OUT! TAKEN! Josh Hazlewood gets the massive breakthrough for his team! So often we have seen a wicket fall just after the drinks break, and it has happened again. Jamie Smith who was batting so well has to go back one short of his fifty here. This one is on a good length and around middle, angling in, Jamie Smith takes a couple of steps to flick it away, but gets a bit cramped for room and ends up hitting it aerially towards short mid-wicket, Jake Fraser-McGurk (Sub) moves quickly to his left and takes a fine catch tumbling in the end as well. Smith falls on 49 off 61 and England are seven down now! 159/7
Liam Livingstone | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Alex Carey b Aaron Hardie
9.3 OUT! CAUGHT DOWN THE LEG SIDE! Two in two for Hardie. Well, we saw this in the first innings as well, not-so-good deliveries getting wickets. Hardie gives a welcome gift to Liam Livingstone, a half volley on the pads. Livingstone looks to flick and does so, but can only get it fine! The keeper, Alex Carey, dives to his left and pouches another screamer, with his left glove! Livingstone does not want to go, so he waits. The umpire raises his finger and now he has to go for a golden duck! 65/5
Jacob Bethell | 25 | 35 | 4 | 0 | 71.42 |
c Mitchell Starc b Glenn Maxwell
21.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Out of nowhere, Australia get a wicket. And not for the first time in a decade, Glenn Maxwell gives them a breakthrough. He bowls a short ball, outside off and Bethell's eyes light up, aiming to hammer this. He eyes the region around cover but there is extra bounce on this one and hence, a top edge is skewed. The ball has not gone far but Mitchell Starc at short third does not sight it at first. He is then guided by his keeper and starts off late and eventually, having to dive forward to break the 55-run stand. Bethell looks distraught but more than a poor shot, one feels that the bounce was his undoing. He departs for a bright 25 (35), England are 120/6 and need another 151 from 173 balls. 120/6
Brydon Carse | 26 | 46 | 2 | 1 | 56.52 |
c Aaron Hardie b Adam Zampa
33.5 OUT! TAKEN! Adam Zampa strikes! This is why he is so important for this Australia side in white-ball cricket. He bowls this slower through the air, full and around off, turns away a bit, asking the batter to go after it, Brydon Carse accepts the offer and goes for the big slog sweep, but he is early into his shot and only manages to get a top edge, the ball flies high in the air towards long off where Aaron Hardie runs forward, settles under it and pouches it safely. Carse goes back after a decent knock of 26 off 46, but England are starring down the barrel now. 176/8
Adil Rashid | 27 | 34 | 2 | 1 | 79.41 |
lbw b Glenn Maxwell
39.5 OUT! LBW! Well, Rashid has reviewed this but if there is no bat, there is not much hope. It was a length ball, around off, Adil Rashid tried to paddle it around the corner. He missed and was hit on the pads. Maxwell appealed and umpire Joel Wilson raised the dreaded finger. Rashid seemed to realize the mistake in the choice of his shot, because the risk in that stroke if you miss, you are gone. He had a long look at Potts, which means that he did not hit it and then took the review. Sure enough, UltraEdge detected nothing when the ball passed the bat. Ball Tracker then completed the formalities, with the ball projected to be hitting leg stump. Rashid goes for a fighting 27 (34) and England are 201/9, needing another 70 from 61 balls. 201/9

c Steven Smith b Mitchell Starc
40.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Unfortunate end for England and Stone but it is what it is. A short ball, outside off, from around the wicket, Olly Stone actually exhibits good technique, in ducking, to avoid the short ball. But he takes his eyes off the ball and as a result, it comes in, hits the grille of the helmet, then his shirt, goes onto the top portion of the bat and lobs in the air. Steven Smith runs behind from slip and takes a comfortable catch. The Aussies celebrate but Stone is as still as his name. The umpire smiles and eventually raises his finger. Maybe, he felt that the wicket was too obvious. AUSTRALIA WIN BY 68 RUNS AND TAKE A 2-0 LEAD IN THE 5-MATCH SERIES! 202/10
