# Faf du Plessis' magnificent unbeaten 78 is his third innings of 75-plus in a row since debut against Australia - his scores are  78 and 110 not out at Adelaide and 78 not out at Perth

# Plessis is the first batsman to post three successive innings of 75 or more since making Test debut.  He has averaged 266.00 so far in Tests - his tally being 266, including a century and two innings of 75 or more.  His superb average is the highest by a South African after his first three Test innings

# South Africa (225) have posted their lowest score in Tests at Perth

# In three consecutive Tests, a side batting first has failed to cross 300 in the first innings at Perth.  Australia had totalled 268 against England in 2010 and India 161 in 2012.

# Nathan Lyon (3/41) has recorded his best bowling performance against South Africa in Tests.

# Vernon Philander and Plessis have registered 64 for the eighth wicket - South Africa's highest against Australia at Perth.

# Abraham de Villiers' batting statistics as a Test wicketkeeper is just average - his tally being 380 at an average of 29.23 in 15 innings with just one fifty.

# While not playing as a wicketkeeper, de villiers has averaged 50.42 in Tests - 5345 in 119 innings, including 13 centuries and 28 fifties.
