Shan Masood | 27 | 97 | 3 | 0 | 27.83 |
c Steven Smith b Pat Cummins
33 OUT! A wicket falls at last. Caught at slip! The no. 1 Test bowler in the world, Cummins draws first blood. A shortish length ball, closer to the off pole. It comes into the left-hander. Masood looks to defend but the ball takes the outside edge and goes to Steven Smith at second slip. He does not make a mistake there. Cummins drew an outside edge on the fourth ball of the over but that went through the slips but not this one. The solid stand is broken. 75/1
Azhar Ali C | 39 | 104 | 5 | 0 | 37.50 |
c Joe Burns b Josh Hazlewood
33.2 OUT! Caught! The skipper departs now and it is Josh Hazlewood who strikes. A fuller length ball just outside off, Ali looks to defend but once again the ball takes the outside edge and goes to first slip. Joe Burns there gets low and gobbles the ball up just above the turf. Massive wicket this one as Ali was looking solid out in the middle. 75/2
Haris Sohail | 1 | 15 | 0 | 0 | 6.66 |
c Tim Paine b Mitchell Starc
38.3 OUT! CAUGHT! What a bowling change from Tim Paine and Australia. Starc is brought back and immediately does the job for his skipper. Short of a length delivery outside off, Sohail looks to push at it but gets an outside edge. Paine will not make a mistake out of this and pouches a simple catch. Pakistan slip further. 77/3
Asad Shafiq | 76 | 134 | 7 | 0 | 56.71 |
b Pat Cummins
81.4 BOWLED! TIMBER! This is excellent bowling from Pat Cummins. Pakistan crumbling yet again. Full delivery on off, swinging in, Shafiq looks to defend it but the ball sneaks past the bat and pad and goes onto hitting the top of middle stump. End of a magnificent innings from Shafiq. He was the only one who looked comfortable at the crease and has given some respect to Pakistan's score. 227/9
Babar Azam | 1 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 25 |
c Joe Burns b Josh Hazlewood
39.2 OUT! CAUGHT! This is not a shot you play when you have just arrived at the crease. Pakistan have lost three quick wickets and they wanted Babar to play a good knock but he has fallen to a poor shot. Full delivery outside off, Azam looks for an expansive drive but gets an outside edge. It goes towards first slip where Joe Burns takes a comfortable catch. Suddenly, Pakistan find themselves in a spot of bother. 78/4
Iftikhar Ahmed | 7 | 18 | 1 | 0 | 38.88 |
c Marnus Labuschagne b Nathan Lyon
45.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust. And this time to a spinner. Lyon has a wicket on the very first ball of his new spell. A flighted delivery around off and middle, Ahmed lunges forward to tuck it towards the leg side but the ball takes the inside edge onto the pads. The ball lobs to short leg where Labuschagne pouches it comfortably. 94/5
Mohammad Rizwan Wk | 37 | 34 | 7 | 0 | 108.82 |
c Tim Paine b Pat Cummins
54.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Well, the umpire thinks it's a legal ball and he sends Rizwan packing. That clearly looks like a no ball. A surprising, surprising call from the third umpire. Rizwan will feel hard done by here. Coming to the shot, it was a poor one though. A good length ball outside off, Rizwan pushes at the ball with hard hands but manages only a tickle behind. A straightforward chance for Paine behind the wickets. Now, here is the drama. The on-field umpire is not sure whether the bowler has overstepped, so he sends it upstairs. There are plenty of replays shown and in every one of them, it appears that when the foot lands, the heel is on the line. Nothing is behind. The third umpire, Michael Gough, feels that there is something though. And gives the benefit of doubt to the bowler! Strange, strange call. Normally, the benefit of doubt always goes to a batsman. Well, there is always a first time for things. The 49-run stand is broken and the attacking innings from Rizwan has been cut short. 143/6
Yasir Shah | 26 | 83 | 2 | 0 | 31.32 |
b Mitchell Starc
80.4 OUT! Timber! No need to appeal for these. What a brilliant yorker this one. The second new ball has done the trick for them. Wonder if even the top order could've done much to that delivery. An inswinging yorker. Shah looks to jam it away but misses. The ball swings in, misses the inside edge, hits the pad and disturbs the stumps. The 84-run stand is broken. 227/7
Shaheen Afridi | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Tim Paine b Mitchell Starc
80.5 OUT! Caught! Two in two for Starc. The Ultra Edge suggests an outside edge which means Starc will be on a hat-trick next ball. A good length ball, closer to the off pole. Shaheen looks to drive away from the body but gets an outside edge. Paine behind the wicket gobbles and celebrates along with the bowler. The umpire though is not interested as he turns down the appeal. Paine thinks and thinks and almost decides against the review. However, Smith from the slip cordon asks him to go for the review. With just 4 seconds left on the clock, he goes for the review. First, Hot Spot. Massive spot on the bat. Here comes the Ultra Edge, a faint tickle has been spotted and Afridi has to walk back for a first-ball duck. Starc on a hat-trick! 227/8
Naseem Shah | 7 | 12 | 1 | 0 | 58.33 |
c & b Mitchell Starc
86.2 OUT! Caught and bowled! There goes the debutant and Australia bundle out Pakistan. A short of a length ball on middle, Naseem hops to defend but the ball takes the leading edge and lobs up in the air towards the bowler. Starc settles under it and pouches it with ease. PAKISTAN ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 240. 240/10

c Mohammad Rizwan b Naseem Shah
100.5 OUT! Caught! The 16-year-old strikes. What a delivery this one to get his maiden Test wicket. A superb bouncer on middle, Warner looks to sway away from the line of the delivery but it keeps coming into him. The ball catches the under edge and goes left of the keeper. Rizwan there dives to his left and pouches it superbly. Naseem went past the outside edge twice in the over and he deserved this wicket. They check for the no ball but this is a legal delivery. No respite for Warner this time and he needs to continue his walk to the pavilion. Standing ovation as he walks off after a brilliant century. 351/2
Joe Burns | 97 | 166 | 10 | 0 | 58.43 |
b Yasir Shah
60.5 OUT! Bowled him around his legs. Oh dear! No Test ton for the hometown boy. A loopy ball outside leg. Burns looks to sweep but drags the ball on the stumps off his gloves. He is distraught as he walks back. Deserved a Test ton in front of his home crowd. Pakistan though finally have a wicket. Yasir went round the wicket for this ball and the change of angle worked for him there. The massive 222-run stand is broken. 222/1
Marnus Labuschagne | 185 | 279 | 20 | 0 | 66.30 |
c Babar Azam b Shaheen Afridi
150.2 OUT! Caught! Hearbreak for Marnus in front of the home crowd. A soft dismissal this one but what a fantastic innings. The crowd gets up and applauds the brilliant innings. Labuschagne raises his bat as he trudges off the ground. Full ball outside off, Labuschagne looks to guide it to the third man fence, in search of quick runs. He reached out to play but manages to guide it straight to Azam at gully who makes no mistake. He stands still at the crease thinking what has he done as the umpire check for the front foot no ball. The front foot is fine and Labuschagne has to walk back. 546/7
Steven Smith | 4 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 40 |
b Yasir Shah
103.5 OUT! Bowled' em! Yasir strikes and removes the big fish. He has been excellent this morning and has got a reward for that with the wicket of world's no.1 Test batsman. A flighted ball on off, Smith after getting that boundary looks to stay in the attacking mode. He looks to whip it on the leg side but misses the line of the ball completely. The ball goes behind and disturbs the off pole. Two wickets in quick time for Pakistan. 358/3
Matthew Wade | 60 | 97 | 7 | 1 | 61.85 |
c Mohammad Rizwan b Haris Sohail
132 OUT! Wade departs! A wicket out of nowhere. Wade was in search of quick runs. He once again tries using his feet there. Sohail judged that nicely and dropped his length just short. Wade then looks to guide it towards third man. He gets a faint outside edge which goes behind. Rizwan in his first attempt misses out but eventually manages to hold on in the second attempt. The stand is broken. Wade walks back with shake of his head. But a nice innings nonetheless from the left-hander. 468/4
Travis Head | 24 | 29 | 3 | 0 | 82.75 |
c Mohammad Rizwan b Haris Sohail
139.5 OUT! Caught! Excellent take from Rizwan behind the wicket and Sohail has his second. Not the ball you get wickets but Rizwan grabs it nicely there. Down the leg side, Head looks to glance it fine but gets faintest of edge behind. Rizwan moves to his right and pouches it superbly. They appeal and the umpire raises his finger instantly. 506/5
Tim Paine C Wk | 13 | 24 | 2 | 0 | 54.16 |
c Asad Shafiq b Shaheen Afridi
148.5 OUT! Caught! The skipper departs now! Shortish length ball on middle, Paine looks to pull but the ball takes the under edge and then hits the pads. It lobs towards third slip where Asad Shafiq takes the simplest of catches. 545/6
Pat Cummins | 7 | 13 | 0 | 0 | 53.84 |
c Mohammad Rizwan b Imran Khan jr
154.3 OUT! Caught! Pat Cummins goes now and Imran gets his first wicket of the game. Fourth catch for Rizwan behind the wickets. A fullish ball outside off, Cummins goes for the expansive drive away from his body. He manages an outside edge which goes behind. Rizwan gets down and snaffles it inches above the ground. 567/9
Mitchell Starc | 5 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 62.50 |
lbw b Yasir Shah
152 OUT! LBW! Yasir has his third. Brilliant bowling. He pitches it on middle and tossed it up nicely. Starc looks to defend but misses to get hit on the pads. The appeal follows and umpire raises the finger instantly. Starc reviews after a brief chat with Cummins. Here comes the replay, Hot Spot shows no bat. No deflection on the Snicko. Now, the Ball Tracker, pitching in line and going on to hit the middle and leg pole. Starc has to go. He takes a review along with him. No declaration though. 559/8

Josh Hazlewood | 5 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 50 |
lbw b Yasir Shah
157.4 OUT! LBW! Not much use of the review. Umpire's call it is, on height and Australia's batting innings ends. Flighted delivery on off, Hazlewood looks to defend but misses it as the ball turns in and gets hit on the pads. The bowler appeals for lbw and the umpire raises his finger. Hazlewood has a long look at his partner and almost as if to suggest that there is a review left, so let's take it, opts for the same. There is nothing on Hot Spot, or Snicko. Ball Tracker shows that it is umpire's call on height, as the ball is clipping the top of leg stump. The original decision will stay as it is. AUSTRALIA ARE ALL OUT FOR 580. 580/10

c Tim Paine b Pat Cummins
28.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Masood was showing really positive intent there but that has brought his downfall. He could've easily ducked under that ball but he went for the dashing pull shot. He has been struggling on the shortish length and probably should've chosen different lengths to attack. Coming to the delivery, it was a short of a length delivery on leg, Masood went to pull but managed to get a tickle which goes behind to Paine who took the catch over his head. The massive appeal upheld and Masood departs after playing a decent knock. Also, the dropped chance did not cost much to the Aussies. 93/4
Azhar Ali C | 5 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 55.55 |
lbw b Mitchell Starc
2.5 OUT! LBW! Yes, just as we suspected, it is umpire's call on height. There's the first one. Starc strikes and sends the Pakistani skipper back to the pavilion. On a good length on middle, Azhar looks to flick but gets hit on the pads. The Australians roar out a loud appeal and the umpire agrees. Azhar Ali does not look sure as he walks towards the non-striker. Seems like he will not review that one, but hello, with just two seconds left on the timer, he signals the 'T'. Let's see what the replays show. There is nothing on Snicko and Hot Spot. Ball Tracker shows that it is pitching in line and clipping the top of the middle stump. Pakistan retain the review but their skipper has to depart. Early strike for Australia, exactly what they would've wanted. 13/1
Haris Sohail | 8 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 100 |
c Tim Paine b Mitchell Starc
4.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Unbelievable. Almost an action replay of his dismissal in the first innings. Sohail falls to another poor shot. He cannot believe it as he shuts his eyes and takes a few seconds before trudging off. Short delivery outside off, Sohail looks to punch it off the back foot and away from his body. The ball shapes away just a hint and all Haris can manage is a faint outside edge which goes behind. Paine gobbles it comfortably and celebrates. Sohail got out to Starc in a similar fashion in the first innings as well. Problems for Pakistan early on. 25/2
Asad Shafiq | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Steven Smith b Pat Cummins
6.4 OUT! CAUGHT! There goes the third one. The half centurion of the first innings goes for a duck. Cummins is the man with the wicket now. On a good length on off, going away. Shafiq pokes at it with hard hands. The ball takes the outside edge and flies towards Smith at second slip. He makes no mistake in gobbling that. 25/3
Babar Azam | 104 | 173 | 13 | 0 | 60.11 |
c Tim Paine b Nathan Lyon
64 OUT! Lyon strikes and the big fish is out of here. A superb knock from Azam comes to an end. The 132-run stand is broken. This is slightly quicker and shortish in length. Azam goes back to punch it off the back foot but only manages a faint tickle back to Paine. He gobbles it nicely and appeals. The umpire raises his finger and Babar walks off. He shows his bat to the crowd as he gets a massive applause. Pakistan might still lose this by an innings but it has an excellent fight shown by Babar and Rizwan. The deficit is now 114. 226/6
Iftikhar Ahmed | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Tim Paine b Josh Hazlewood
29.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and it is Josh Hazlewood who strikes. Perfect line, perfect length. It pitches around off and then shapes away. Iftikhar has a poke at it but manages a edge behind. Paine makes no mistake and half the Pakistan side is back in the hut. 94/5
Mohammad Rizwan Wk | 95 | 145 | 10 | 0 | 65.51 |
c Nathan Lyon b Josh Hazlewood
79.1 OUT! Caught! Rizwan goes for 95! That is so, so, so, so sad for him. He is distraught. He just looks at the fielder, then his shot and thinks, 'What have I done?' It is difficult to say who spent a longer time at the crease after getting out - Rizwan or Sohail yesterday. A short ball outside off, Rizwan leaps and plays the upper cut but he finds Nathan Lyon at deep backward point! Is the innings defeat still on? 35 more needed for Pakistan to avoid that. End of a quickfire 79-run stand. 305/7
Yasir Shah | 42 | 55 | 6 | 0 | 76.36 |
c Matthew Wade b Josh Hazlewood
81.1 OUT! Pakistan are 8 down now. A nice little cameo comes to an end. A fuller ball on middle, Shah looks to flick but the ball takes the leading edge and balloons towards mid off. Wade at covers runs across from covers and takes a nice catch diving forward. Australia just 2 wickets away. 324/8
Shaheen Afridi | 10 | 18 | 2 | 0 | 55.55 |
c Pat Cummins b Josh Hazlewood
83.4 OUT! 9 down and Australia are just a wicket away. Back of a length delivery on middle, Shaheen looks to mow it to over mid-wicket but mistimes it. It lobs towards short cover where Cummins takes the easiest of the catches. 331/9
Imran Khan jr | 5 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 83.33 |
c Matthew Wade b Mitchell Starc
84.2 OUT! Caught! No, they will not have to because Imran has holed out. Good length ball on middle, Imran looks to power it over the mid-wicket fence this time but manages only a top edge. Wade from long on comes forward to catch but initially misjudges it. He backtracks and then manages to hold on the catch over his head. Australia win the first Test by an innings and five runs. 335/10
