Liam Livingstone bowls the leg break and tosses the ball up on the pads, Zadran sits down and sweeps it high towards deep square Jofra Archer just settles inside the ropes and takes a reverse cup catch. Sediqullah Atal | 4 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 100 |
4.5 OUT! LBW! Given out by Joel Wilson but Atal has sent this upstairs. On a length around middle and leg, Sediqullah Atal looks to flick this toward the leg side but gets a bit late at it. The bat too on it's way down thumps into the pads and that allows the ball to thump onto the pads first. A confident appeal from the English players and the umpire gives Atal out. After a discussion with Zadran, Atal sends this upstairs. The UltraEdge does show some murmurs but that was of the bat striking the pads and later the Ball Tracker confirms the decision of OUT with three reds. 15/2

Rahmat Shah | 4 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 44.44 |
8.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Afghanistan are three down inside the first Powerplay and Jofra Archer picks up his third wicket of the day! He bowls it slightly on the hard length, but down the leg side, and gets it nipped back in, Rahmat Shah just transfers his weight to the back foot and looks to pull it. He manages to get a top edge only as the ball flies to deep fine leg where Adil Rashid runs in forward and makes a slide to catch it with both hands at his knee height. Afghanistan are 37/3. 37/3

He pushes it through at 84 clicks, flatter, fuller around middle, and gets some drift off the surface, Hashmatullah Shahidi changes his stance and looks to reverse sweep it but misses the line of the ball. The ball sneaks through the gap between pad and bat and dislodges the off stump. A timely breakthrough for England whereas a well-settled partnership gets broken for Afghanistan just when they started to look in command. Afghanistan are 140/4. 140/4

3.3 OUT! BOWLED! Afghanistan get their first wicket and it is Azmatullah Omarzai who has drawn the first blood for them. He runs in from over the wicket and bowls on a good length, around middle, coming in with the angle, Phil Salt misjudged the length and he goes for a pull shot from the front foot but misses. The ball sneaks through under the bat and rattles the middle stump. England are 19/1. 19/1
|
|||||
Ben Duckett | 38 | 45 | 4 | 0 | 84.44 |
16.4 OUT! LBW! That looked really close and eventually, Afghanistan do get their man! Rashid Khan bowls this one from the front of the hand, flat and quick, on a nagging length around leg. This one skids on and Ben Duckett tries to flick it off the back foot but gets beaten past the inside edge and gets rapped on the pads. A huge appeal for LBW but the umpire says no. Rashid is certain and Hashmatullah Shahidi reviews. Nothing on UltraEdge and three reds come up on Ball Tracking and the decision is overturned. Duckett departs for 38 (45) and England are now 98/3 as Rashid picks up his 199th ODI wicket. Also, Hasmat will be a relived skipper, having dropped Duckett not too long ago. 98/3

45.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! AFGHANISTAN'S PLAYERS ARE PUMPED UP AS JOE ROOT IS GONE! Azmatullah Omarzai breaks the partnership again as he has got the dangerous man. He changes his pace again, a bit slower and hits the deck hard, back of a length, around off. Joe Root waits for it, makes room by going to the leg side, and opens the face of the bat off late to guide it towards third man but he manages to get a thick outside edge only. The ball goes towards the keeper where Rahmanullah Gurbaz moves to his right and takes it with both hands. End of a fine knock from Root but England are now 7 down and they need 39 off the last 25 balls. 287/7

21.4 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Mohammad Nabi again breaks a growing partnership and Afghanistan are on top in this game now! He keeps it slower and on the nagging length, around middle, gets some drift off the surface, Harry Brook presses back and looks to punch it for a single. He is a tad early in his shot and his right hand also gets off from the handle. The ball goes through the upper half of the bat back to the bowler where Mohammad Nabi leaps a bit and takes a reverse cup around his face. England are 133.4. 133/4

36.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Azmatullah Omarzai, the ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2024 gets the big breakthrough and Jos Buttler has thrown it away. Slower one, bowled into the pitch and around the fifth stump line, Liam Livingstone stays upright and goes hard at the cut but only manages to get the outside edge which is gobbled up by Rahmanullah Gurbaz to his right. Naib brings out the signature celebration and England are now 6 down with still 93 runs needed for the win. 233/6
