Anand wins first game over Karpov
Viswanathan Anand beat Anatoly Karpov of Russia in the first match of the final of Eurotel chess tournament in Prague.

Prague:
Viswanathan Anand moved a step closer to regaining a world championship crown when he inflicted a crushing defeat on Anatoly Karpov of Russia in the first match of the final of Eurotel chess tournament here today.
In a clash of two former world champions, Anand totally outplayed his rival with white pieces in a Petroff defence game. Anand won in 59 moves.
He now needs only a draw in the second game to win the championship, which carries a total prize money of 500,000 Euros. (PTI)
