New York:
Bernard Hopkins will put the WBC and IBF Middleweight belts up against the undefeated Felix Trinidad's WBA title on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Both boxers appeared at a press conference in New York on Wednesday to promote Saturday's bout, which was originally scheduled for September 15 and postponed after the terrorist attacks.
Promoter Don King announced that Trinidad will be donating $ 500,000 to a relief fund.
The latest in the confrontations between the two, Hopkins tossed plastic bags of rice and beans in Trinidad's direction. "I'll tell you, I've got Spanish friends. People think I don't have any, but I do have some. I just asked them what kind of food do Spanish people like to eat at any time. We talked about it and they gave me some little insight, some little pointers. I didn't have time to cook it. I didn't have a pan or a pot. So I just figured I'd bring a bag of rice and a bag of beans. I hit a nerve spot because he kept hearing it over and over. I said it and was over and done with it. But he kept hearing "rice and beans, rice and beans," said Hopkins.
Trinidad however, seemed unfazed by Hopkins antics. "It bothers me when he flew my flag to the floor, obviously. But I'm always positive, I have a strong heart and I'm going to be the best in the ring that night," said Trinidad.
Hopkins also drew his finger across his neck in a slashing motion as King posed for pictures with both fighters, as both fighters will vie to become the first undisputed middleweight champion since 'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler in the mid-1980s.
