Sports Authority of India to Take Decision on Matters Concerning Para-Athletes
The Ministry had suspended the Paralympic Committee of India following mismanagement at the National Paralympic Games in Ghaziabad, where the athletes were treated shoddily.
With the PCI suspended, the Sports Ministry has decided that all matters relating to Para-athletes, including selection of athletes for various events, will be taken care of by Sports Authority of India (SAI).(Indian Para-Athletes to Compete Under IPC Flag)
The Ministry had suspended the Paralympic Committee of India following mismanagement at the National Paralympic Games in Ghaziabad, where the athletes were treated shoddily.
Apart from the selection matters, SAI will also take care of coaching camps and submission of entries of para-athletes in international tournaments.
"In order to protect the interest of para-athletes in the country, the Ministry has already requested International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to take certain steps including permitting SAI to send entries of para-athletes of the country to international competitions," a ministry release said.
