Olympian Cathy Freeman retires

Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman has announced her retirement. The Australian had won the 400 metres gold at the Sydney Olympics.

Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman has announced her retirement. The Australian, who won the 400 metres gold at the Sydney Olympics, told an Australian newspaper that she no longer has the desire to compete. Freeman had earlier said that she would take part in the relay event in the World Championships in Paris next month. However, after the Olympics, she has never really been in top form. She took a year out in 2001and then suffered a thigh injury on her return. Last year she took more time off after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
