"It was mentally tough for me because I know everyone had their eyeballs on me. My entire family is here, so I was nervous about that too," says Neeraj Chopra. A landmark moment for the posterboy of Indian athletics, having now had a international javelin event and a gold-level event as certified by World Athletics.

Gold for Neeraj Chopra! No athlete improves in the final round, meaning India's golden boy stays on top spot with a best throw of 86.18m, which he did on his third attempt. He wins on home soil, he wins the first-ever international javelin event in India!

Sachin Yadav misses out on the podium! 82.33m his best throw today, a really good effort. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage confirms bronze, does not improve with his final throw. The former U16 fast bowler, he has given Neeraj a great fight today.

A commendable effort from Yashvir Singh, he finishes 8th with a throw of 79.65m. He finishes third among the 5 Indians competing today. Brazil's Luiz Mauricio da Silva finishes 7th with a best throw of 80.31m. USA's Curtis Thompson finishes 6th with a best throw of 81.50m. Can anyone improve in the final round?

Good throw from Neeraj! Another throw in excess of 84m. 84.07 from India's golden boy. He maintains his lead after the fifth round of the event. Julius Yego is second, while Rumesh Pathirage is third. One more round to go!

Not a great throw from Neeraj Chopra. He maintains the lead after Round 4, but Julius Yego is keeping him honest, having thrown 84.51m in the fourth round. Onto Round 5!

Only the top 8 are in the fray for the final three rounds of the NC Classic 2025. Not a great throw by Rumesh Pathirage in the fourth round, and he stays in third spot. Now then, time for Neeraj's fourth throw. Is the 90m dream still alive?

Kenya's Julius Yego, 36, is rolling back the years! He is enjoying himself here. Great throw of 84.51m, and he shoots up to second spot. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist occupies silver spot then, as it stands.

Top spot back with Neeraj Chopra! Tough conditions, with a lot of wind blowing past the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Third time is the lucky charm for Neeraj, 86.18m throw takes him back to the No. 1 spot.

Rumesh Pathirage is second for now, with India's Sachin Yadav in third!

Rumesh Pathirage overtakes Neeraj! A stunning throw of 84.34m, and he has surpassed Neeraj Chopra to reclaim the top spot. Terrific attempt the former Sri Lanka U16 fast bowler. Seems like he will be Neeraj's biggest competitor today.

What a throw by Sachin Yadav! 82.33m and he soars up to second spot! That is a terrific throw by the Indian, and he is narrowly behind Neeraj Chopra now. Next up, Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage!

This is turning into a nightmare event for Germany's Thomas Rohler. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist, now 33 years old, has a best throw of only 75.85m. Meanwhile, Yashvir Singh becomes the top-ranked Indian with a throw of 79.65m! Into the top 5 he goes again.

Neeraj Chopra goes top! 82.99m with his second throw, and he takes top spot away from Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage. Third spot occupied by Brazil's Luiz Mauricio da Silva. Julius Yego and Curtis Thompson round out the top 5.

To the lead goes Rumesh Pathirage! The Sri Lankan with an excellent throw of 81.90m, and he soars to the lead. Rumesh is apparently a former Sri Lanka U16 fast bowler! Brazil's Luiz Mauricio a Silva throws 80.31m! He is up to 2nd now.

Kenya's Julius Yego extends his lead! He becomes the first player to cross 80m today, throwing 80.07m. A small improvement from the 2016 Olympic silver medalist.

Improvement for Yashvir Singh, who enters the top 5! 76.20m throw with his second attempt, he makes it three Indians in the top 5 now. After a foul throw in his first attempt, this is a good second effort.

No improvement made by Indians Sahil Silwal and Rohit Yadav with their second throws. Germany's Thomas Rohler, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist, isn't having the best evening as of yet. Not a great throw, and opts to make it a foul attempt.

Foul throw by Neeraj Chopra! The star javelin thrower makes a foul on his first attempt, crossing the white line. He will therefore not have a throw registered. It is Julius Yego who stays in top spot, with Curtis Thompson in second. Sahil Silwal is India's top-ranked star for now.

Sri Lankan Rumesh with a poor throw, while a foul attempt by Polish javelin star Mrzyglod. Curtis Thompson of USA nearly throws 80m, and rises up to second spot with a throw of 79.35m. Right then, time for Neeraj Chopra for the last throw of the first round! 

79.97m throw from Kenya's Julius Yego! That's the best one of the event so far, in the first round. The mighty Kenyan, probably past his prime years at this point, goes top of the order for now. Meanwhile, a foul throw from Sachin Yadav on his first attempt.

Sahil Silwal stays top, because it isn't a particularly great throw by German 2016 Olympic medalist Thomas Rohler. 75.85m, he ranks in behind both Sahil and Rohit Yadav. Meanwhile, not a great throw by Czechia's Martin Konecny, and a foul throw by Yashvir Singh too.

Event has started! Sahil Silwal, the left-handed Indian javelin star throws over 77m! He is overjoyed with that throw, and celebrates. Rohit Yadav, another Indian, throws next, and also gets over 77m.

The crowd goes berserk! Neeraj Chopra enters into the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The man who the competition is named after, the man who has put javelin on the map in India. He will be eyeing gold today.

The players are making their entry into the arena! It's a near packed crowd at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Thomas Rohler of Germany, the Olympic 2016 gold medalist, gets a big round of applause from the crowd.

Speaking to the broadcaster, Indian track and field athlete Tejaswin Shankar states that this event could end up playing a role for athletics in India like the Indian Premier League (IPL) did for cricket.

Neeraj Chopra has stated that he never imagined such an event named after him could happen in India. He states however that he hasn't put any additional pressure on himself. It is indeed a watershed moment for Indian sports, being the first international javelin event in the country.

We are gearing up for the start of the Neeraj Chopra classic 2025, and India's golden boy is warming up! Gets a big roar from the crowd at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. People are gathering by the minute, in what is possibly the biggest athletic event in India in years.

This is, of course, the first time an international javelin event is being held in India. A landmark moment, highlighting how far the sport has come ever since the rise and rise of Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj Chopra broke the 90m barrier earlier this year for the very first time in his career at the Doha Diamond League, where he threw an astonishing 90.23m. However, he was beaten to gold in that event by Weber.

With no Weber today, Neeraj will be eyeing up both the gold medal and another historic 90m throw in front of his own crowd.

Despite a number of excellent javelin stars participating in the inaugural NC Classic 2025, many other household names are not taking part. Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlech, Germany's Julian Weber and Pakistan's Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem are among the big absentees from the NC Classic 2025 roster.

The two biggest names on show today will be Kenya's Julius Yego and Germany's Thomas Rohler. Yego won silver in the 2016 Olympics, while Rohler won gold in the same event. Here are their incredible career Personal Bests:

For India, the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 is the first time an international javelin tournament is being held in India. It has also been deemed as a gold-level event by World Athletics. A very, very special day indeed for Indian athletics.
