Josh Allen Has Struggled To Find His Rhythm In Houston

Allen's history against Houston has been unusual for a quarterback of his level. He is 1-4 against the Texans overall, with his only victory coming in Buffalo in 2021. That game ended in a 40-0 Bills win, but his trips to Houston have been far less comfortable.

His first visit came in 2018 and ended early because of an elbow injury. A year later, Buffalo suffered one of its most painful playoff losses when a 16-0 lead disappeared before Houston won 22-19 in overtime.

The problems continued in 2024, when Allen completed just nine of 30 passes during a 23-20 defeat. Last season brought another frustrating result as Houston's defense pressured him throughout the game and finished with eight sacks.

Allen's numbers in Houston show the challenge. In four games there, he has completed 67 of 127 passes for 732 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He has also been sacked 14 times.

Buffalo Bills Have A Chance To Change The Story In Week 1

The Bills are not only trying to give Allen his first win in Houston. They are also chasing an opportunity to end a six-game road losing streak against the Texans.

Buffalo last won in Houston on November 19, 2006. Since then, every visit has ended in disappointment. That makes Sunday an early chance for the Bills to remove a piece of unwanted history.

The team has also entered the season with changes around Allen. Joe Brady is now the head coach, while the offense has added DJ Moore. Those moves could give Buffalo more ways to attack a Texans defense that has consistently made life difficult for Allen.

For Houston, the formula will be familiar. Pressure the quarterback, disrupt Buffalo's rhythm and force Allen into difficult decisions. For the Bills, the answer is simpler. Protect their star quarterback, stay patient and finally turn a troublesome road trip into a win.
