Somdev qualifies for Farmers Classic

Somdev Devvarman scored a straight set win over Ecuador's Giovanni Lapentti to qualify for the singles event of the USD 619,500 Farmers Classic here.

Somdev Devvarman scored a straight set win over Ecuador's Giovanni Lapentti to qualify for the singles event of the USD 619,500 Farmers Classic here.

The third seed Indian beat his unseeded rival 6-2 6-4 in the third and final round match of the qualifiers.

His first round opponent in the main draw is a local qualifier Steve Johnson.

If he manages to reach the second round, he will be facing sixth seed and world number 45 Serbian Janko Tipsaveric.

Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna is competing in the doubles draw along with Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.

The fourth seed pair will open its campaign against British combination of Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski.
