Germany's Sabine Lisicki stormed into tennis' record books on Wednesday by registering the fastest-ever serve in WTA history. While she lost the first round match of the Bank of the West Classic against Ana Ivanovic, one of her serves during the match was at a lightening 131 mph (211 kph).
Lisicki, who reached the Wimbledon final last year, played with determination and her serve in the eleventh game of the first set match at Stanford was clocked at 131 mph - helping her overtake Venus Williams' record serve of 129mph during the 2007 US Open. The men's record for the fastest serve is held by Australia's Sam Groth who blasted one down the court at 163.7mph during Challenger tournament in South Korea in 2012.
Speed of serve though can't ensure a win as Ivanovic went past Lisicki 7-6 (2), 6-1.
