American Ryan Sweeting launched his title defence at the US Men's Clay Court Championship on Tuesday with a 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) victory over Brazilian qualifier Ricardo Mello.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has reached the third round at the Australian Open for the third straight year, beating Brazilian lefthander Ricardo Mello 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday with an ace on match point.

Ricardo Mello of Brazil upset last year's finalist John Isner of the United States 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Tuesday in the first round of the Serbia Open, while former fifth-ranked Fernando Gonzalez of Chile made a winning return from an eight-month injury layoff.

Juan Martin del Potro advanced to the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open on Wednesday, beating Ricardo Mello 6-4, 6-4.
