Almagro, who will play in the Chennai Open 2012 tennis championship from January 2-8 after a gap of 13 years, said, "I need to work (on) my physical and mental strength, improve my volley and try to be regular all season."
The 26-year-old Spaniard, who made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2010 and reached a career-high ranking of 9 in May, said that he was hoping to have a great time in Chennai.
"I hope it will be a great week for me and for all the people. We need all supporters to have an amazing atmosphere.
"Many people told me that Chennai Open is really good and the city I am going to stay in is a really good one," he said.
Almagro draws inspiration from compatriot Rafael Nadal and said that he aspires to be like him.
"Rafa has had a lot of influence on us. For all Spanish players, Rafa is a hero and all of us want to be like him," insisted Almagro.
"The Chennai Open will feature an impressive line-up of Indian and global stars, including Serbian world No 9 Janko Tipsarevic, Swiss world No 17 and defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka, former champion Xavier Malisse of Belgium and ATP World Tour's newcomer of the year award winner Milos Raonic of Canada," he added.
I want to remain in top 10 next season: Almagro
